Fernando
Daniels, III, M.D. is the Medical Director and Chief of the Emergency
Medical Services Bureau of the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services
Department. He is responsible for developing guidelines, policies,
procedures, regulations, and rules designed to monitor and optimize
the overall quality of medical care performed by over 2,000 departmental
pre-hospital care providers. He is currently improving the District's
capability to respond to emergencies through the implementation
of enhanced training programs, quality assurance programs, transport
unit redeployment, paramedic engine programs, and the ongoing
procurement of state of the art pre-hospital medical equipment.
He is an Assistant Professor and Emergency Physician in the Department
of Emergency Medicine at Howard University Hospital. He currently
serves as the Emergency Medicine Section Chair of the National
Medical Association. He is a member of numerous hospital wide
committees and served as the EMS and Trauma Director for the Department
of Emergency Medicine at Howard University Hospital. He serves
on the Mayor's Emergency Medicine Advisory Committee, Mayor's
Health Policy Council, EMS Sub-control Committee, and Child Fatality
Committee. He is past president and vice-president of the DC chapter
of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Daniels received
his Doctorate of Medicine degree from Meharry Medical College
and completed his Emergency Medicine residency training at Howard
University Hospital where he was the chief resident. He is board
certified in Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of the American
College of Emergency Physicians. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Dr.
Daniels lives in Bowie Maryland with his wife and their two sons.
